Bonnie grew up eating biscotti, but she didn’t discover a love for biscotti until she was 16, when her Italian Aunt Isa taught her the family recipe. Years later, just for fun, Bonnie started selling biscotti at a San Francisco cafe where she worked. She couldn’t keep up with demand. So in 1983, Bonnie and her mother, Aurora, founded La Tempesta Bakery Confections in South San Francisco.

La Tempesta was the first company to introduce the crunchy Tuscan specialty cookie known as biscotti di Prato to the American market. Bonnie’s cookies were an instant sensation, and La Tempesta turned into a multimillion dollar company within a few years of its founding. Bonnie was dubbed “The Queen of Biscotti” by food writers and fans, and her cookies became ubiquitous.

Bonnie sold La Tempesta in 1997 but couldn’t stay away from the kitchen. She returned to the art of baking in 2012 with the founding of Boncora Biscotti, a small batch producer based in Sonoma, CA.

Bonnie’s light and crunchy biscotti made in the Florentine tradition in her small commercial kitchen in Sonoma, and they may be Bonnie’s best yet! A portion of Boncora’s proceeds go to PetsLifeline Sonoma, a local animal rescue organization that is near and dear to Bonnie’s heart.

The name Boncora is derived from Bonnie’s name, “Bon,” and “ancora,” which means encore in Italian. “People have never stopped asking me when I’d start making my biscotti again,” explains Bonnie. “It was time for an encore.”

Celebrate Bonnie’s 30-year biscotti anniversary with 30% off* and see for yourself why Bonnie was and will always be “The Biscotti Queen.”
